Description

Chestnuts is a late 17th-century house located on the east side of Aston Street, Aston Tirrold. The house is rendered over timber framing and has a thatched, half-hipped roof with a brick ridge stack situated to the left of the centre. It may have originally been built with a three-unit baffle-entry plan. The house is single-storied with an attic, and has a four-window front facing the street. A six-panel door is located on the left side. A 20th-century bay window sits to the left of the centre, alongside a single-light casement window and a three-light casement window. A gabled eaves dormer with a plain-tile roof and surround is positioned to the left of the centre. There is an outshut to the rear. The left return wall is of painted rubble with brick dressings. Inside, the ground floor centre features a chamfered spine beam with ogee head stops and an open fireplace. The rear ground floor also has an ovolo chamfered spine beam. Some doors retain decorative H or L hinges. The roof structure is a Queen post roof with windbraces.
