Description

Broadfield Court is a house dating from the 17th century, which was remodeled around the late 19th century. The ground floor is constructed of painted English garden wall bond brick, while the upper section features a roughcast timber frame. The roof is covered with clay plain tiles and has gabled ends, with brick lateral stacks located at the rear.

The building has a two-room plan with a central entrance and stair hall, and it includes rear lateral stacks. There is a late 19th-century rear wing at the center, along with other 20th-century single-storey extensions at the back.

The exterior is two storeys high with an attic and presents a symmetrical three-window west front, featuring a string course at the first-floor level. The windows are 19th-century two-light casements with glazing bars and wooden architraves that have cranked heads; the central first-floor casement has been replaced. The central doorway has a panelled door, a gabled canopy, and sidelights, while there is a gabled attic dormer at the center. Similar windows are found in the gable ends, and there is a cast-iron casement in the attic of the north gable.

Inside, the ground and first floors have chamfered ceiling beams. The first floor displays exposed wall framing with jowled storey-posts and a timber-framed partition between the right-hand and center bays. The roof consists of four bays with two queen-post and collar trusses, and one elm king-post and strut truss, featuring staggered purlins throughout. Late 19th-century joinery includes panelled doors and a staircase with stick balusters, while the right-hand room contains a later 19th-century marble chimneypiece.
