SJ 63 SE LOGGERHEADS C.P SHROPSHIRE UNION CANAL (west side)

Tyrley 11/164 Lock Cottage GV II

Lock-keeper's cottage. Probably c.1830, with later alterations. Purplish-brown brick; slate roof with half-octagonal splays to front and rear, wide projecting eaves. Cruciform plan. Single storey; 1:3:1 bays (including 3 windows to half-octagonal projection to front); all 4-paned late C19 sashes with horns; prominent central axial ridge stack with brick capping. Entrance in left-hand side of half-octagonal projection to front. Forms a picturesque group with Tyrley Locks (not included) and Bridge No.60 (q.v,) and the buildings of Tyrley Wharf (q.v.) to the south. Included for group value.
