Description
The Shropshire Union Canal Lock Cottage is a lock-keeper's cottage, likely built around 1830, with some later alterations. It is constructed of purplish-brown brick and features a slate roof with half-octagonal projections at the front and rear, along with wide projecting eaves. The cottage has a cruciform plan and is a single storey with a layout of 1:3:1 bays, which includes three windows in the half-octagonal projection at the front. All windows are late 19th-century sashes with four panes and horns. A prominent central axial ridge stack with brick capping is also present. The entrance is located on the left side of the half-octagonal projection at the front. The cottage is part of a picturesque group that includes Tyrley Locks and Bridge No. 60, as well as the buildings of Tyrley Wharf to the south, contributing to its group value.
