Description
Tyrley Lock Number 3 on the Shropshire Union Canal was built between 1827 and 1830 and features a design by Thomas Telford. The lock consists of a brick and stone chamber with concrete coping, and it has brick wing walls also topped with concrete coping. There are off-side tail steps for access. The lock is equipped with a single wooden top gate that includes one mechanical gate paddle gearing and two mechanical ground paddle gearings. There is a concrete heel grip platform at the top gate. The double bottom gates are made of steel and have two mechanical gate paddle gearings. On the off side, there is a concrete heel grip platform, while the towpath side features a platform made of brick, stone, and concrete.
