Description
Tyrley Lock Number 2 on the Shropshire Union Canal was built between 1827 and 1830, designed by Thomas Telford, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The lock features a brick and stone chamber topped with concrete coping. It has brick wing walls also finished with stone and concrete coping. There are offside tail steps leading into the lock. The lock includes a single wooden top gate equipped with one mechanical gate paddle gearing and two mechanical ground paddle gearings, along with a concrete heel grip platform. The double bottom gates are made of steel and have two mechanical gate paddle gearings. There is a concrete heel grip platform on the offside and a combination of stone, brick, and concrete heel grip platforms on the towpath side.
