Description

This is a milepost, likely from the mid-to-late 19th century, made of cast iron with a black painted base and raised lettering. It has a triangular shape with a chamfered top that slopes to the front. The top is lettered "WHITMORE," while the left side reads "ASHLEY 4/MARKET DRAYTON 9" and the right side states "WHITMORE ¾/NEWCASTLE 5." The milepost has been struck by a vehicle and is partly buried in a bank, but it remains part of a series of similar mileposts.
