Description

This is an early 19th-century house located on Baldwin's Gate in Whitmore, Cheshire. The exterior is roughcast with plastered stone dressings, and it has a slate hipped roof with wide, projecting eaves. The house is two storeys high and has three bays, with the central bay slightly recessed. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with 16 panes on the ground floor, set within eared and shouldered architraves. A continuous cill band runs along the first floor. The central entrance has a four-panel door within a plastered, moulded surround topped with a segmental arch, flanked by fixed-light vertical windows. Two roughcast stacks with stone capping are visible in the roof slope to the left and right. While Sir John Soane worked in the area, and his influence is potentially detectable, the building's design was likely by a local builder.
