Description
This is a 19th-century milepost located in a stone wall at Burton Bridge. It has a rectangular shape and is painted white with raised black lettering. The inscription reads: "LONDON/124 MILES/ASHBY/8 MILES/BURTON/1 MILE." This milepost is well-preserved in its original location and is part of a group of similar mileposts in East Staffordshire, many of which are listed. These mileposts serve as reminders of the increasing significance of road transport for people and goods in the 19th century.
