Description
The building is a coach house dating from the 18th century, located opposite Brand House on Brand Lane in Ludlow. It is constructed of brick and features a hipped roof covered with old plain tiles, which has twin gables at the rear. The coach house is two stories high and includes a plank hoist door with a timber lintel and a damaged hoist beam. To the right, there are 19th-century plank double doors set in an earlier frame beneath a segmental arch. On the left, there are 20th-century garage doors under a concrete lintel, with two damaged openings above them, also under segmental arches.
The right side of the building is finished in coursed rubble, which retains three wood-barred lights, while the left side is brick over rubble. At the rear, there is a loft door in the left gable and a shutter in the right gable, both set under brick segmental arches in stone rubble. The entrance on the left features 20th-century double doors, while the right side has a door with an overlight and a two-light casement at the far right.
Inside, the coach house retains some boarded lining and hatches leading to the loft. The roof structure includes a king-post on a massive tie-beam, with heavy trusses supporting the front wall and gables, and lighter king-post trusses at the hips. Heavy gable purlins support a boarded, leaded valley.
