Description

Brand House is a house from the late 18th century with 19th-century additions. It is constructed of painted brick and features a slate roof, along with brick cross axial ridge and end stacks. The building has a central staircase plan and stands two storeys high, with an attic and cellar. It has a seven-window range, including two-over-two sash windows, two of which are from the late 19th century, set in broad beaded cases beneath gauged brick flat arches. The eaves have a 20th-century soffit, and there are three dormers, likely from the 19th century, each with casement windows.

The central entrance features an oak door with six fielded panels and an overlight, set in a panelled case with a rounded head. This is topped by an open pediment and a moulded hood with a fluted frieze supported by moulded pilasters. Flanking the door are two-over-two sash windows in broad moulded cases, also under gauged brick flat arches. To the left is a two-storey brick wing from the 19th century, which includes a late 19th-century two-over-two sash window under a gauged brick flat arch, above a six-panel door and fanlight set beneath a gauged brick semi-circular arch with stone springers and a keystone. There is also a further 19th-century gabled wing with two late 19th-century two-over-two sash windows under grooved brick lintels. Inside, the house retains a late 18th-century staircase, along with panelling, doors, and architraves.
