Description

These are two houses located on Old Street in Ludlow, dating from the early 19th century, though with earlier origins. The left-hand building is painted brick, while the rear displays rubble construction. The roofs are slate to the front and tile to the rear, with brick end stacks. The houses are three storeys high, with a cellar, and feature a three-window front. The windows are mostly 6/6 sashes, with a 3/3 sash to the left and two 20th-century casements above. Plain stucco lintels are present on the first and ground floors. The central doorcases have pilasters, a frieze, and a flat moulded hood; the left-hand house (number 38) has a six-panel, part-glazed door, while number 36 has a 20th-century door. An 8/8 sash window is also present. A doorway to the rear, on the right, is set within a segmental arch, and a cellar entrance is to the left. There are extensions to the rear. A flying freehold arrangement exists between the houses; the central room on the second floor belongs to number 36, and the rear landing to number 38. Cellar flaps are marked with the name “C Hodges Ludlow Foundry 1841”.
