Description

The White Lion Inn is a house that has been converted into an inn. It dates from the early 17th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building features rendered brick that conceals a timber frame and has a slate roof. The main section is a hall range that appears to have two and a half framed bays, with a gabled cross-wing on the left. There is also a two-bay range that extends at right angles to the rear on the right side. The structure has one storey and an attic, with a small 19th-century casement window in the gable and late 20th-century fixed-light windows on either side of a gabled wooden porch leading to the hall range. It includes two contemporary flat-roofed eaves dormers and a prominent axial stone ridge stack, which has been heightened in red brick, located at the junction of the hall range and the cross-wing. Inside, the hall range features two chamfered cross beams and flat joists on the ground floor, along with a similar chamfered cross beam in the rear range. There are late 20th-century flat-roofed additions to the rear and left, which are not considered to have special architectural interest.
