Description

This building, located at 43 Willow Street, is a house that has been divided into a shop and restaurant. It was remodeled in the mid-18th century from an earlier structure. The exterior features red brick and a slate roof, with two storeys and an attic. It has a dentilled eaves cornice and three bays, with mid-19th century segmental-headed casements on the first floor and three gabled eaves dormers. The late 19th century shop fronts include a segmental-headed doorway leading to a passageway on the left. A prominent reddish-brown brick ridge stack, which has been rebuilt at the top, is located to the left of the center. At the rear, there is a lower red brick and rubblestone range, likely hiding a timber frame, that runs at right angles to the main building and features a tall stack at the junction with the main range, also with a rebuilt top. A line indicating a former steep-pitched roof is visible on the right gable end of the main range. The interior could not be inspected during the re-survey in August 1985, but it was noted to have chamfered ceiling beams in the main ground-floor rooms on the right and a partly infilled inglenook fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel beneath the back stack.
