Description

41 Willow Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 15th or 16th century and was remodeled in 1707, as indicated by a datestone, and later faced with red brick in the late 19th century, with further additions and alterations. The building features a slate roof and originally had a jettied street frontage, with a long range extending at right angles to the rear.

It stands two storeys high with a coped parapet and has a two-window front. On the left is a four-paned sash window, while the right side has a 20th-century casement window. The late 19th-century shop front has been altered in the 20th century and includes an arched passageway on the left. The long range at the rear has outer walls that are clad or rebuilt in late 19th-century red brick, but it retains a prominent brick ridge stack, an exposed wall-plate, and a sagging roof line. The datestone marked "FE" is positioned between the first-floor windows at the front.

Inside, an inspection in 1985 was not possible, but it was noted to have a richly moulded bressumer from the former jetty at the front, which continues into the passageway on the left. There is also 17th-century square oak panelling on the back wall of the current shop.
