Description

The Poplars is a house, now used as offices, with an attached garden wall. It was built in the early 19th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building is made of red brick and features a slate roof with internal end stacks that have toothed capping. It stands three storeys tall and has a dentilled plaster eaves cornice with fluted decoration. The front has three windows, with glazing bar sashes that have gauged heads on the first and second floors, and a tripartite window on the ground floor with decorated cornices. The central entrance features an open-pedimented doorcase with fluted pilasters, panelled reveals, and soffits, and includes a six-panel door and fanlight. At the rear, there is a low hip-roofed service range that is positioned at right angles to the main building. Inside, there is a good early 19th-century staircase with turned balusters and a moulded handrail. The attached garden wall, made of red brick, is approximately 15 meters long and has stone coping.
