Description
Ship House is a house that was formerly known as the Old Ship Inn. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. The building is timber framed, refaced, and partly rebuilt using coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings. It has an asbestos slate roof, featuring a partial catslide over an outshut to the west. The structure is L-shaped, consisting of two framed bays aligned north-south, with later additions to the northwest and southeast.
The house is two storeys high, with concealed square panels and wattle and daub infill in the framing. There is a truncated brick stack at the south end and a 19th-century external lateral stone and brick stack on the west side. On the first floor, there is a two-light segmental-headed casement window to the right, while the ground floor features a boarded door to the right. To the left, the outshut includes a three-light segmental-headed casement window to the right and a segmental-headed boarded door to the left. The right-hand return front has two windows, both of which are two-light segmental-headed casements.
Inside, the house features queen-post trusses and a double purlin roof, along with chamfered and stopped beams and an 18th-century staircase.
