Description
This is a group of three dwellings, formerly The Ship Inn, located on Church Green in Bramford. The core of the building dates to the early 16th century, with a two-bay extension added to the rear in the 17th century. The building is arranged with a three-cell plan across two storeys.
The structure is timber-framed with exposed framing and plastered infill panels. The upper floor is jettied along the front, supported by brackets that are rosette carved and spring from pilasters. The front features a plain tiled roof with a red brick axial chimney. The windows are largely from the 19th and 20th centuries, comprising small panes with leaded glazing. A central 19th-century canted bay window with a plain tiled roof features panels of original herringbone pargeting. A reset 16th or 17th-century plank entrance door is set into what was originally a moulded mullioned window. The exposed timber framing is of high quality, incorporating arch-braced close studwork. The bressumer at the jetty is also moulded. A former parlour window on the left side of the building had original moulded jambs and mullions; the flanking pair of five-light side windows remain, but are now blocked. Three of the original upper floor windows were of oriel form.
