Description
Bramford House is a Grade II* listed house, likely built around 1693, with possible earlier elements and 18th-century alterations. It features a double-pile plan, is two storeys high with attics, and has seven windows. The exterior is made of orange brick with parapet gables that include chimneys. There is a band at the first-floor level, above which the Flemish bond walling displays burnt headers. A fine wooden eaves cornice is decorated with groups of three and four console brackets and a frieze adorned with egg and dart ornament. The house has ogee guttering with large lion-head water spouts and a plain tiled two-span roof. Flat-roofed dormers contain 19th-century sash windows. The sashes have flat arches made of gauged brick and flush frames with small-pane sashes. The entrance features a door with six fielded panels. A Roman Doric portico porch, likely added in the late 18th century, has a flat entablature supported by a pair of circular columns. Inside, there is an original staircase with barley-sugar twist balusters, and several rooms boast good original fireplaces and panelling.
