Description

This is a set of three gatepiers marking the entrance to the driveway of Millbank, dating from around 1754. The main pair consists of heavy square gatepiers, each approximately 2.5 meters high. They still have the hinges from a pair of carriage gates that once stood at the entrance. The gatepiers are made of orange brick, which has been painted, and feature moulded scone copings. The cast iron ball finials on top are later additions from the 19th or 20th century. There is also a smaller, similar gatepier that does not have a finial and once supported a pedestrian gate. Historical records suggest that Millbank was built in 1754, although it underwent alterations in the 19th century, and the design of the gatepiers aligns with this date.
