Description
The Sun Inn is a converted outbuilding that now serves as an inn. It dates back to the 15th century and was likely converted into a house in the 17th century, with further remodeling occurring in the mid-to-late 19th century. The exterior walls are timber framed and have been refaced or rebuilt, probably using limestone rubble and render, topped with a slate roof. The building features two framed bays with a later addition on the left side. It has two storeys and a three-window front. The first floor has two-light 19th-century casement windows, while the ground floor has three-light casement windows with transoms and a top light, all featuring diamond-pattern glazing bars. There is a 20th-century boarded door with a porch situated between the first and second windows from the left, and an off-centre boarded basement door to the left. An inn sign with a wrought iron bracket hangs above the door. Inside, there are three full cruck trusses, and the roof shows no signs of smoke blackening. This building is reputed to have been an outbuilding for Nos. 17 and 19 on High Street. A wall painting from the 17th or 18th century can be found in the central ground floor room.
