Description

The former Ship Inn, located at No. 1 Ship House, West Street, Banwell, is a building with origins dating back to the 17th century, significantly altered and extended in the early 19th century. It is constructed of rendered material and has a pantile roof. The main block is two storeys high with a four-window façade, and it is accompanied by a two-storey, two-window stable wing set back. The windows are sixteen-light glazing bar sashes, with one positioned off-centre to the left. A flat-roofed porch with a cornice supported by two plain, slender columns and vestigial pilaster strips sits at the entrance, which now has 20th-century doors. Above the porch is a coped parapet and two 20th-century gabled dormers. The stable wing features irregular boarded doors and windows that match those of the main block. Inside, the building retains stopped chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
