Description

The sundial, dating from 1700, is located approximately 20 meters south of the nave of the Church of St. Michael in West Felton. It features a sandstone pedestal that was added in 1748. The sundial has a short column with a slight curve, known as entasis, and a moulded cap. At the time of the last survey in May 1986, the brass plate and gnomon were missing. The base consists of two circular steps, which may have originally served as the base for a medieval churchyard cross. The pedestal is said to bear the initials "JBR" and "JBS," attributed to John Bassnet of Rednal and John Bassnet of Sandford, who were churchwardens, although these initials were illegible during the resurvey.
