Description
The sundial in the churchyard of St Michael dates from 1720, with a plate added in 1767. It is made of red sandstone and features a tall bulbous baluster set on a square base. The base is inscribed with the initials "J D R M Cwds 1720" in cursive script around its widest part. At the top, there is a circular capstone that supports a square brass plate with a pierced gnomon. The inscription on the plate is said to read "George Healing, Isaac Newell, Churchwardens 1767, Lewis Thomas fecit."
