Description
The front garden walls and gatepiers at Shotwick Hall date from around 1665 and were built for Joseph and Elizabeth Hockenhull. They are constructed of orange brick in English bond with red sandstone dressings. The walls are square in plan, featuring a plain front wall on a stone plinth, which has corner and intermediate square piers with stone plinths, stone framing, and moulded capstones. The central gatepiers are larger and similar in style, topped with ball finials and small scrolls from which hang a pair of 20th-century iron gates that are not of special interest. The north wall, which returns to the house, is plain with a flat stone coping, while the south wall includes a ramp, internal buttresses, and an inserted gateway.
