Description
The gates, gatepiers, and churchyard wall along the north side of Shotwick Lane are likely from the early 19th century and constructed from red sandstone blocks. The gate piers are simple and square with domed tops, supporting a pair of iron gates featuring pointed circular bars and arch bracing above the lockrails. Below the gates, there are dog bars with diamond-shaped bracing. To the right, there is a similar single gate that has an overthrow and a lantern holder. The stone retaining wall for the churchyard has stepped triangular coping near the gates and flat coping in other areas. There are three buttresses along the lane side. At the west end, an iron ring is present, associated with the local legend that ships were tied up here when Shotwick was a port.
