Description

This barn, located approximately 15 meters north-east of Steps Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and has undergone some later alterations. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on an uncoursed limestone rubble plinth, topped with a graded slate roof. The barn has two levels and includes three eaves hatches, with a stable door located below the central hatch, which is accessed by an external flight of steps. The interior was difficult to assess during the last survey in November 1985 due to being filled with hay, but three square panels were visible from the cill to the wall-plate, along with a raised threshing floor and a collar and tie beam roof.
