Description
No. 13 Market Place is a house that now serves as both a residence and a shop. It dates from the 17th century, with a late 18th-century addition to the front. The building features a timber frame with square panels and straight braces, alongside a red brick addition. The roof is covered with old tiles, hipped at the front, and has a gable roof over a wing at the rear. The structure is L-shaped, comprising three storeys with a two-storey wing at the back.
On the exterior, there is a first-floor cill band, a moulded wooden eaves cornice, and an off-centre ridge stack to the right. The second floor has three bays with glazing bar sashes that have gauged heads. The first floor includes a canted bay window to the left, which features a raised central arched sash, a dentil cornice, and a lead roof. To the left on the ground floor, there is a 20th-century small-paned shop window, while to the right, a six-panelled door with raised and fielded panels is framed by a plain architrave, a radial fanlight, and a flat hood supported by cut brackets, with a dentil cornice and a panelled soffit. Inside, the building boasts a late 18th-century rectangular well staircase that rises through both floors, featuring an open string, square balusters, a ramped moulded handrail, and turned newels.
