Description
No. 23 High Street is a house that now functions as both a residence and a shop. It dates from the late 17th century and was altered in the 18th century, with an early 20th-century shop front. The building is timber-framed but is now encased in rendered brick, while the rear wing is partly timber-framed and weatherboarded. The roofs are covered with black-glazed pantiles and feature a brick stack at the right end.
The exterior has two storeys with a dormer attic and a two-window front. To the left, there is a well-designed shop front that includes a fascia board, a panelled door, and a tiled dado. To the right, there is one 6/6 unhorned sash window set in a flush frame. The first floor has two similar sash windows. The gabled roof has two gabled dormers, each fitted with 3/6 horned sashes. The two-storey rear wing also has sash windows. The interior has not been inspected.
