Description
The White Hart Hotel is a public house located on High Street in Saxmundham. It dates from the late 17th century and was remodeled in the early 19th century, with further alterations in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a machine tile roof with brick end stacks that are elongated into polygonal shafts with star tops.
The exterior consists of a two-storey front with three windows. On either side of the center, there are six-panel doors set in pilastered doorcases with hoods. The windows are tripartite sashes with glazing bars arranged in patterns of 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2. The first-floor windows have 20th-century louvred shutters. The gable end to the right retains some 17th-century brickwork in the head and has one chamfered brick window opening, with a possibility of a second hidden from view. The rear elevation features a rebuilt wall stack. The interior has been altered in the 20th century.
