Description
The Bell Hotel is a coaching inn, now functioning as a hotel, built in 1842. It is constructed of gault brick, which is colourwashed on the ground floor, and features a slate hipped roof with a stack on the rear slope.
The exterior consists of a three-storey front with five windows. The central door is flanked by margin lights and is sheltered by a shallow porch supported by two Tuscan columns and a plain entablature. The ground and first floor windows are sash windows with 6/6 glazing bars, set under gauged skewback arches. The attic floor has five 3/3 sash windows, also with gauged skewback arches. The left side of the building is partly obscured by a screen wall from the adjacent Market Hall, while the right side features tripartite sash windows.
Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail, and a plain undecorated Assembly Room located on the first floor.
