Description

13A and 15 Market Place are two houses that have been converted into shops and flats. They date from around 1600 and feature 20th-century shop fronts. The buildings are timber framed with rendered square panels and diagonal bracing that creates lozenge patterns, topped with an old tile roof.

The structure consists of three framed bays, with an additional two-bay wing at the rear. It stands two storeys high and has a jettied first floor supported by a moulded bressumer and cut brackets. Above the first floor, there are five small jettied gables; three on the right side showcase concave lozenge-decorated queen post trusses, while two on the left feature single-posted trusses and tension braces, along with a continuous moulded bressumer and small brackets.

There is a ridge stack on the wing at the rear. The right side has three blocked former three-light windows on the second floor, while the left side has two first-floor six-light wooden mullioned and transomed leaded casements, and a three-light leaded casement to the right. The left side also features two 20th-century double-fronted shop fronts with central glazed doors, and a carriageway to the right. The rear wing has two separate framed bays, both with square framing and queen post trusses supported by V-struts. This building is part of a notable group with Nos. 1 and 2 Park Street.
