Description
11-15 Corn Market consists of two houses that have been converted into shops and offices. They date from the 17th century or earlier and were refronted in the mid-18th century, with many later alterations and additions. The building is made of rendered brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high, originally featuring a loft, and has six bays, divided into two bays for No 11 and four bays for No 15, with No 13 located at the rear of No 11. There is a passageway through the building leading to bay 3. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts that are not of special interest. The first floor features six tall, narrow plate-glass sash windows. There is a plain band at the eaves level and a plain parapet with moulded coping. The steeply pitched roof is set back behind the parapet, with stone coping on the left gable and a brick end stack on the right. The rear elevation includes a segmental arch with a raised keystone at the passageway, a bowed end for No 13 which has been significantly altered in the 19th and 20th centuries, and a semi-circular headed window at the rear of No 15. The interiors have not been inspected.
