Description
The Nevett Memorial is a pedestal tomb located approximately 7 metres south of the nave of the Church of St Lucia in Upton Magna. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of grey sandstone ashlar. The tomb features raised side panels with shaped tops, panelled corner piers, and a moulded cornice that supports a chamfered top, which originally held an urn finial. The memorial is inscribed with the following text: "In/Memory of/MARY Daughter/of FRANCIS and/MARY NEVETT/ of Upton Magna/Who died Novr 11 1808/Aged 24 years". Other inscriptions were found to be illegible during a survey conducted in February 1985. At that time, part of the missing urn finial was noted to be resting on the ground near the Church porch.
