Description
There are two chest tombs located about 47 metres north of the north porch of the Church of St Mary, dating from around 1800. Both tombs are made of ashlar stone. The first tomb is dedicated to Anna Maria Eves, who died in 1800. It features bold corner balusters, a raised inscription panel surrounded by husks and paterae, a moulded cornice, and a bevelled top. The inscription reads: "Sacred to the Memory of Anna Maria/ the Wife of Francis Eves/ of Clifford Place Gent/ who died [ ... ] April/ 1800 [ ... 2½ more lines partly illegible]". The second tomb is identical to the first, but its inscriptions are illegible. These tombs are notable examples of stone masonry and enhance the church's setting, contributing to the group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
