Description
The Beavan memorial is a pedestal tomb located about 42 metres north of the north porch of the Church of St Mary. It dates from the early 19th century and is designed in the Greek Revival style. The tomb has a square plan and is cuboid in shape, with each side featuring low relief carvings of a Greek sarcophagus that bears an inscription. Atop the tomb is a classical urn that is partially draped, along with a fluted frieze adorned with paterae and a concave capping that has a cross gabled finial. The southern side of the tomb has an inscription that reads: "Sacred to the Memory of/ Eliza Daughter of/ Thomas and Priscilla Beavan/ of Wood-Eaves in the parish/ of Eardisley in this county/ who departed this Life/ XXIX November MDCCCXII/ Aged V years and VI months." There are also inscriptions on the other faces of the tomb. This memorial is a fine example of stone masonry and enhances the church's setting, contributing to the group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
