SJ 40 NE BAYSTON HILL C.P. -

5/5 L-shaped range of - barns approximately 50m north-west of Whitley Grange

GV II

2 barns. Probably mid- and late C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber framed, part with red brick infill and part weatherboarded, plain tile and corrugated iron roofs. Ranged in an L-shape around north and west sides of farmyard; west range a threshing barn of 4 bays and two 3- and 4-bay barns (the eastern one probably a little later and with an inserted loft) on north side. Framing: irregular square and rectangular panels with long straight tension braces to threshing barn; the western barn on the north range has 2 wide rectangular panels to eaves above a high brick plinth and the eastern one single tall rectangular panels, also above a high brick plinth. Interior: the roof structures of both ranges have undergone some reconstruction but retain Queen-post trusses. The barns are obscured to south by a complex of late C20 farm buildings at the time of re-survey (1985).
