Description

The Whitehurst Memorial is a pedestal tomb located approximately 1 meter east of the vestry of the Church of St Thomas in Great Hanwood. It dates from around 1800 and is made of limestone. The tomb has a square shape with a moulded plinth and a cavetto moulded capping, featuring square corner pilasters. The inscription on the east face commemorates John Whitehurst, who died in 1815, while the inscription on the south side honors his pre-deceased children.
