Description
This milestone, located approximately 210 metres southeast of the Four Crosses Inn, dates from the late 18th century and has early 19th-century alterations. It is made of red sandstone and features segmental-headed cast-iron plates. The milestone has a triangular section on a square base. The left-hand plate is inscribed with the words "TO CHESTER 33 MILES," while the right-hand plate reads "TO NEWPORT 7 MILES." There is a rectangular plate at the base, which was obscured by earth during a survey in March 1986, but it likely bears the name "MILLGREEN," referring to the nearby hamlet. The cast plates are probably early 19th-century additions, as earlier inscriptions can still be seen on the stone behind them. The Four Crosses Inn is not included in this listing.
