Description

Westcott Mill Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse built in red brick on a red sandstone ashlar plinth, featuring a plain tile roof and an L-shaped plan. The building has three storeys and includes a plinth, a dentil brick eaves cornice, and parapeted gable ends with stone copings. An integral brick stack is located at one end. The façade has three bays with 16-pane glazing bar sash windows (12-pane in the center) that have exposed boxes, painted stone cills, and lintels. The central entrance features a six-panelled door (with the lower two panels flush) topped by a radial fanlight. The doorcase is adorned with reeded pilaster strips and plain consoles, with guttae supporting a moulded cornice that breaks forward over the pilasters. At the rear, there is a wing with a brick ridge stack.

Inside, there is much reused timber, including framing in the rear wall of the front range, ceiling beams, and a former ceiling beam repurposed as a lintel for a large open fireplace in the left-hand ground-floor room. The interior also features six-panelled doors with reeded architraves. The staircase has been partly altered, but the flight to the attic remains, showcasing an open string, cut brackets, stick balusters, a turned foot newel post, and a moulded handrail.
