Description

CHESWARDINE C.P. - SJ 72 NW 8/2 Westcott Mill Farmhouse - - II

Farmhouse. Early C19. Red brick on red sandstone ashlar plinth; plain tile roof. L-plan. 3 Storeys. Plinth, dentil brick eaves cornice, and parapeted gable ends with stone copings. Integral brick end stack. 3 bays; 16-pane glazing bar sashes (12-pane to centre) with exposed boxes and painted stone cills and lintels. Central 6-panelled door (lower 2 flush) with radial fanlight and doorcase consisting of reeded pilaster strips and plain consoles with guttae supporting moulded cornice, breaking forward over pilasters. Rear wing with brick ridge stack. Interior: much reused timber including framing-in-rear wall of front range, ceiling beams, and former ceiling beam reused as lintel to large open fireplace in left-hand ground-floor room. 6-panelled doors with reeded architraves. Staircase partly altered, but flight to attic survives with open string and cut brackets, stick balusters, turned foot newel post and moulded handrail.
