Description
This is a milestone located approximately ten metres south of Holly House. It dates from the late 18th century and has early 19th-century alterations. The milestone is made of red sandstone and features cast-iron plates. It has a triangular section on a square base. The milestone has attached segmental-headed cast-iron plates with serif lettering that reads "TO/CHESTER/34/MILES" on the left side and "TO/NEWPORT/6 MILES" on the right side. There is also a rectangular plate at the base that is lettered "HINSTOCK." The cast-iron plates are likely early 19th-century additions, as earlier inscriptions can still be seen faintly on the stone behind them. Holly House is not included in this listing.
