Description
North Handless is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with plastered and painted brick infilling set on a rubblestone base, and has a machine-tiled roof with a brick stack at one end. The cottage is one and a half storeys high, comprising four framed bays, with two and a half square panels at the eaves and long straight tension braces. The windows are 19th-century casements, with two on the ground floor and one on the first floor, along with two 20th-century gabled eaves dormers. The entrance is located to the left, accessed through a late 20th-century lean-to boarded extension. At the rear, there is a timber-framed and brick outshut under a separate lean-to roof. The interior of the cottage retains much of its timber framing in good condition.
