Description
Number 1 Home Cottages is a cottage that likely dates from the 17th century or earlier, but was re-faced in the mid-19th century with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of red brick, featuring a floor band and roughcast on the gable end, which probably conceals a timber frame. The cottage has a slate roof and a brick stack on the left side. It is one storey with an attic, lit by two 20th-century casement windows in the central gable. There is a central 20th-century door flanked by 20th-century casements under 19th-century cambered heads. A mid-19th-century lean-to is located on the left side. Access to the interior is not permitted. The 20th-century extension at right angles on the road front, which is part of both Number 1 and Number 2 Home Cottages, is not included in this listing.
