Stables Approximately 15 Metres North East Of Sandford Hall

The stables, located approximately 15 meters northeast of Sandford Hall, date from the early to late 18th century and were partly rebuilt in 1860 for Thomas Sandford, with later additions and alterations. They are constructed of red brick, with the early 18th-century section at the rear of the north range, and feature hipped plain tile roofs. The stables are arranged in an L-plan around a courtyard to the northeast of Sandford Hall.

The east range is from the late 18th century, while the north range was mostly rebuilt after a fire in the 1860s, which is noted on a datestone. The building has two levels and is characterized by toothed eaves cornices, including on the pedimented center gable of the north range. The north range features a slightly projecting center gable with a round-headed outer arch that has a similar narrower round-headed inner arch and a four-panel door. Above this are three recessed round-headed windows, with the center window being blind, and a datestone that records the rebuilding of the stables along with the Sandford family coat-of-arms. There is also a clock and a tall gabled bellcote, complete with a bell.

The flanking wings have large round-headed doorways with stable doors in the center and round-headed windows on either side. At the rear of the gable, there is a stepped external end stack, with the lower parts dating from the early 18th century. The east range includes two elliptical vehicle arches with double doors and three glazing bar sash windows directly below the eaves, with the center window being blind. The stables are included for their group value with Sandford Hall.
