Description

This building, located at 49 Roft Street, is a house that has been divided into two separate residences. It dates from around 1800 and has undergone some later additions and alterations. The structure is primarily made of red brick, with uncoursed limestone rubble on the left side and a chamfered rubble and brick plinth. The right side features part of the building that is slate-hung. The hipped slate roof is topped with brick stacks that have dentilled capping, positioned both in front of and behind the ridge on the right side.

The house has three storeys above a basement, and it features a toothed eaves cornice, although this is boarded over at the front. The front facade has three windows, which are fitted with glazing bar sashes; the first-floor left window is tripartite. These windows have plastered stone lintels and projecting keystones. The entrance to No. 51 is situated between the second and third windows from the left, featuring an open-pedimented doorcase with fluted pilasters and a six-panel door that has nail-head ornamentation below a rectangular overlight. Additionally, there is a late 19th or early 20th-century red brick lean-to on the left side that provides access to No. 49.
