Description

Tugford Mill is a late 18th-century watermill constructed from stone rubble with a plain-tile roof. It has a rectangular two-cell plan and stands two stories tall with an attic. The front features a door on the left and an unglazed window on the right at the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a doorway with a wooden lintel to the left, a three-light window in the center, and an additional opening for the mill wheel on the right. All openings are topped with brick segmental arches. The right return gable has one opening on each storey, with a brick segmental arch at ground level and opposing attic openings in each gable.

Inside, the mill machinery includes an internal overshot wheel that is 6 meters in diameter and 0.57 meters wide, featuring iron shrouds and buckets, along with a wooden header box. There is a slightly bevelled iron pitwheel measuring 3.1 meters in diameter, a tentering screw inset in a post, and two mill bedstones located on the first floor. The floors are supported by chamfered bridging beams, and the roof consists of a two-bay single trenched-purlin design with a central twin raking-strut truss.
