Description
The stables, now functioning as a byre, date from the late 18th century and are located to the east of Tugford Mill. They are constructed of stone rubble and feature a plain-tile roof with a rectangular plan.
The building is single storey with a loft. The west front has two boarded stable doors, each with an opening to the right on both floors, though the left opening at loft level is brick-blocked. All lower-level openings are topped with brick segmental arches. The east side includes two triangular ventilation openings and a single loft opening. The south gable has a ground-floor doorway with an oak lintel, while the north gable features a loft opening with a boarded door.
Inside, there are two cells with chamfered bridging beams and feeding stalls. The roof is a three-bay single-purlin design supported by two king-post trusses.
