Description
The stable at Bays Court is likely from the early 19th century. It features roughly squared grey rubble at the base and flatter stone above, topped with a tiled roof. The building is arranged in three bays and has two storeys. The front faces the house, with a projecting wing on the left side. There is a flight of stone steps on the right leading to a dog kennel below, which has a flat stone lintel and a timber rail at the half-landing. At the top, there is a boarded door leading to the loft, framed with a cambered head and stone voussoirs. To the left, there is a small square opening into an extension with a timber frame, though the shutter is missing.
On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century boarded door to the stable, which has a cambered brick arch above it. To the right, there is a window with a cambered stone arch and a red stone sill. There are lean-to extensions at the back and left return that are not of special interest, with 20th-century openings connecting them to the original building.
Inside, the main beams support the loft floor, and there is a recess in the wall on the left that serves as a cupboard, followed by a door into the projecting wing. This wing is open to the roof, with plastered walls and three wooden harness hooks, as well as a hatch leading back to the loft for litter. The roof trusses feature a tie beam with angle struts. The stable forms a group with the barn and house nearby.
