Description

This is a farmhouse, built in 1847 for Benjamin H. Mayo, as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed of English bond brickwork with painted stone quoins around the openings, an ashlar plinth, and a tiled roof. The house is three windows wide and two rooms deep, all under a single roof with attic space.

The symmetrical facade has a boarded and studded front door, accessed by two stone steps, leading to a Tudor-arched fanlight with Y-tracery. A hipped porch roof, with moulded eaves supported on tapering octagonal pillars with moulded capitals, shelters the doorway. To either side of the door are three-light stone mullion and transom windows. The upper sections of these windows have centre-pivoted iron casements with Tudor-arched lights and sunk spandrels, all beneath a hood mould with a deep drop at the ends. The first floor has three two-light stone casement windows, similarly styled. Brick gable chimneys are present.

A datestone is positioned centrally at first-floor level on the left return. The attic has two single-light windows that mirror the design of the front facade. Carved bargeboards are linked by a horizontal section below the chimney.

The rear elevation largely mirrors the front, with one window altered. The house forms a distinct group with nearby farm buildings.
