Description
Pound Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 18th century. It features random rubble walls and a tiled roof, with an L-shaped plan that is one room deep and two stories high. The entrance front has a gabled projection on the left side and a three-light mullioned window, which is offset to the right in the wall. This window has a timber frame and an iron opening casement, with a plain stone lintel made in one piece and flared at the ends.
In the main block, the windows are widely spaced, with one at each end similar to those in the gabled wing; however, the window at the right end has a dummy keystone inscribed on it. The front door is slightly left of center and is a four-panel door with the upper panels glazed, set under a cambered brick arch. Above the door is an elliptical open hood supported by brackets and covered in lead.
On the first floor of the main block, there are three windows: the outer ones are three-light as below, while the center window is a two-light, slightly misaligned with the front door and lacking lintels, as the heads are at eaves level. In the gabled wing, there is a two-light window with 'CHEESE ROOM' inscribed on the lintel. The top of the gable is built in yellow brick to match the stone. The main block has a hipped roof with two brick chimneys on the ridge, one aligned with the wing and the other to the right of the front door. The farmhouse is grouped with a barn nearby.
