Description

Actrees Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century, with a late 17th century wing at the front, creating an L-shape. The main section is constructed of brick on a stone plinth, topped with a slate roof and featuring brick end stacks, one of which has stone capping. The older wing is made of rubble stone and also has a slate roof, with one large brick stack. To the north, there is a brick stable wing with a slate roof, which is of no special interest.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays on the main range, with two windows featuring cambered heads. Each window is a three-light design with a central casement, and each light contains eight panes. There is a large stone keystone and voussoirs above the windows. The ground floor mirrors this design, with a central doorcase that has a cambered wooden hood supported by stone brackets, a keystone, and voussoirs over a six-panel door with fielded panels.

The stone wing has a 20th-century door and a timber porch at the angle. On the west gable, there is one window on each floor; the first-floor window retains its original five-light splayed stone mullion with a long wooden lintel, while the ground floor has a similarly sized opening with four replaced eight-pane lights. The rear of the main range features four small louvred openings under the eaves for cheese drying, along with several bricked-up openings with cambered heads.
